New Exhibition Supporting Eureka Springs School of the Arts

A few health issues the past year or so have prevented me from participating in traveling art shows. So, I was pleased to be asked to participate in "Made Visible", a new exhibition from July 8 - August 16 at Brews in Eureka Springs, AR.

The exhibition is part of a month long celebration of Louis and Elsie Freund, who were largely responsible for founding and nurturing the Eureka Springs art community. The exhibition is titled "Made Visible: Art is Vital to the Human Spirit", exploring the essential role creativity plays in our lives.

I'll be displaying my painting "The Cetoceans" in celebration of the influence of dreams. For some reason, perhaps it was my dinner that night, I had a dream about whales as intergalactic vessels transporting cargo and lifeforms between galaxies. When I awoke, I knew I had to paint my vision. I wonder how many paintings, books, and inventions have been inspired by dreams.

I chose to name my creatures Cetoceans. The Ceti portion of the Milky Way is in the whale constellation. So I combined Ceti with ocean, since I think of the vastness of space as an ocean of stars. Hence, the Cetoceans. Star Trek aficionados will recognize that Kahn and his tribe were beamed from the Enterprise to Ceti Alpha 5 and in Star Trek 4, The Voyage Home, the crew of the Enterprise had to rescue a whale from the Cetacean Institute (the Monterrey Bay Aquarium in real life). I envision the Cetoceans creating a spatial rift to enable transport over massive distances. Anyway, that was my dream.

The painting will be on display and available for sale with 20% of all proceeds to go benefit the Eureka Springs School of the Arts. Stop by, enjoy some refreshment and see the painting...or support the school and purchase it for a lifetime of enjoyment!

Here's a little animation of the painting we did for fun.
